Minneapolis schools celebrating National African-American Parent Involvement Day
by

Students succeed when families play a central role in their education, and today (Monday) Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS) invites all families to participate in National African American Parent Involvement Day (NAAPID). This is a chance to get involved and look at what’s happening in MPS.

Schools throughout the district will welcome families to have breakfast or lunch with their student, tour Black history exhibits, enjoy dance parties and more. At Longfellow High School, Vocal Essence will perform lullabies written by the parenting and pregnant students who attend the school.

NAAPID is a national call to action to get parents, particularly those of children of African-American descent, more involved in their educational lives. View a full list of NAAPID activities and learn more about how MPS is celebrating Black History Month at www.mpls.k12.mn.us/africanamericanhistorymonth2017.

What: National African-American Parent Involvement Day at Longfellow
When: Monday, Feb. 13, 11 a.m.–noon
Where: Longfellow High School, 3017 E. 31st St., Minneapolis, MN 55406

And stay tuned for more information about the first annual Black Teen Summit taking place on Feb. 22.
